Privacy Policy
Singapore MRT Bus Card Balance
Your card is read on your device, and your balance and history are stored only on your phone — that data is never uploaded. There is no account. The app fetches currency exchange rates once a day. The street map loads map tiles from OpenFreeMap, and when you open a station or a bus stop it asks the Land Transport Authority for live crowd levels, bus arrival times, train service alerts and lift outages; these requests contain no card data and no account. When the map opens, and when you tap the Near me button, the app reads your phone's location (only while the app is open, and only if you allow it) to show where you are and the closest stations and bus stops; your location stays on your phone and is never sent to us, stored or shared. The stations and bus stops you save are kept on your phone only. If you switch on train disruption alerts in Settings, the app checks the Land Transport Authority in the background about every 15 minutes and sends you a notification on your phone. The app is free and ad-supported, and uses Google Firebase to report anonymous usage and crash information, and to be able to send you messages from us.
- No personal data required to use the app
- No account needed
- Contains ads
- Limited sharing with named partners
This Privacy Policy explains how MobileMint (“we”, “us”) handles information in connection with the Singapore MRT Bus Card Balance mobile application (the “App”). It applies to the App only. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
We are deliberately minimal about data. The App collects only what is described below, and nothing more:
| Data | Why & how |
|---|---|
| NFC card reading | Used only to read your transit card's balance, expiry and stored records when you hold it to your phone. The app can read the card but never modify it, and it cannot add balance. |
| Card data (on device) | Balances, records, and any nickname you give a card are saved locally on your phone so your history outlives the card's own 30-record limit. They are never uploaded, and you can erase them at any time in Settings. |
| Expiry reminder (optional) | If you switch it on, the app asks for notification permission and schedules one notification on your phone for 30 days before your card expires. It is created and delivered locally on the device; nothing is sent to us. |
| History export (optional) | When you tap Export, the app writes your saved records to a temporary CSV file on your phone and opens Android's share sheet so you can choose where it goes. The file goes only to the app you pick; we never receive it. |
| Purchase status (optional) | The app is free and ad-supported. You can pay once to remove ads for life. The payment is handled entirely by Google Play, so we never see your card or payment details. The app only asks Google Play whether this Google account owns the purchase, and keeps a note on your phone so ads stay off. |
| Exchange rates | Once a day the app downloads public currency exchange rates to show your balance in your home currency. The request contains no card data and nothing about you beyond what any web request carries (such as your IP address). |
| Street map | The map loads map tiles from OpenFreeMap as you pan and zoom. Each request carries the part of the map being shown and, like any web request, your IP address. It carries no card data and no account. Because the map opens on your position when you allow location, the part of the map requested then is the area around you, which like any web request goes with your IP address. Station, exit, timetable and bus stop information is stored inside the app, so searching and planning a trip run on your phone. |
| Location (optional) | If you allow it, the app reads your phone's approximate or precise location while it is open: when the map opens, and each time you tap the Near me button. It is used on your phone only, to centre the map on you, to draw where you are and to list the closest stations and bus stops by straight-line distance. It is never stored, never sent to us and never shared with anyone else, and the app never reads your location in the background. You can decline, and everything else in the app still works. |
| Saved places (on device) | The stations and bus stops you star are saved on your phone so you can find them again. They are never uploaded, and Delete local data in Settings removes them. |
| Train disruption alerts (optional) | If you switch it on in Settings, the app asks for notification permission and, about every 15 minutes (sometimes later to save battery), asks the Land Transport Authority whether a train line is disrupted, then sends a notification on your phone if so. The request carries only your IP address, like any web request; nothing about you or your card is sent, and nothing is sent to us. You can switch it off at any time. |
| Messages from us (Firebase) | The app includes Firebase Cloud Messaging and Firebase In-App Messaging, so we can show you an occasional message about the app. Firebase gives your installation of the app an identifier and uses it to deliver them, and receives the device model, OS version and app version. No card data, location or saved places are sent. Notifications from us need your notification permission, which you can refuse or withdraw in Android settings. |
| Live station and bus information | When you open a station card, a bus stop card, the bus view or the saved places list, the app asks the Land Transport Authority's DataMall for that line's crowd levels and lift outages, or that bus stop's arrival times, and the Metro view asks whether a train line is disrupted. The request names only the line or the bus stop and carries your IP address; nothing about you or your card is sent. It is asked for once and refreshed while the card stays open. |
| Advertising identifier | Your device's advertising ID and coarse device information are used by Google AdMob to show ads and to limit how often you see the same one. This is handled by Google, not by us — we never receive it. |
| Usage events | Anonymous counts of what happens in the app — that a scan succeeded, that a scan failed and why, that a card was renamed, that history was exported, that the language or currency was changed, which screens such as the map or a guide topic were opened. Never your balance, your card number, your records or a nickname: no card data is included in any event. |
| Crash and performance diagnostics | If the app crashes or runs slowly, the device model, OS version, app version and a stack trace are sent so the fault can be found and fixed. |
How we use information
We use the information above solely to operate, maintain, and improve the App — for example, to provide its core features, keep it stable by diagnosing crashes, and understand which features are useful in aggregate. We do not use your information for profiling unrelated to the App, and we never sell it.
Analytics
The App uses privacy-conscious analytics to collect aggregated, anonymous information about usage and stability. This helps us fix bugs and decide what to build next. These analytics are not used to identify you personally.
Advertising
The App is free and supported by advertising. Our advertising partner may use your device’s advertising identifier to show ads and limit how often you see the same ad. You can reset or limit this identifier at any time in your device settings under Settings → Privacy → Ads. We do not share your name, email, or contacts with advertisers.
Third-party services
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers. Each processes data only as needed for the purpose listed and under their own privacy policy:
- Google AdMob— Shows the ads that keep the app free, and applies frequency limits so the same ad is not repeated..Privacy policy ↗
- Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring, Cloud Messaging, In-App Messaging)— Anonymous usage counts, crash reports and performance measurements, and delivery of messages from us to your installation of the app. No card data, location or saved places are ever sent..Privacy policy ↗
- Google Play Billing— Processes the optional one-time purchase that removes ads and tells the app whether you own it. We receive no payment details..Privacy policy ↗
- ExchangeRate-API (open.er-api.com)— Supplies the daily currency exchange rates used to convert your balance. No card or personal data is sent..Privacy policy ↗
- OpenFreeMap— Supplies the map tiles for the street map. Its privacy policy says it has no user accounts, uses no cookies or tracking, and does not store IP addresses in its normal access logs. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors..Privacy policy ↗
- Land Transport Authority (LTA DataMall)— Supplies the live station crowd levels, bus arrival times, train service alerts and lift outages shown in the app. Only the line or the bus stop being viewed is sent, with your IP address; no card, location or personal data..Privacy policy ↗
Data storage & security
Your in-app content is stored locally on your device by default. No method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, alteration, or loss.
Children’s privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because the App stores your content on your device, you can remove it at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it. To exercise any right, email us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
Data deletion
Your card data lives on your phone alone, so erasing it is immediate and needs no request to us. Anonymous usage and crash reports held by Firebase are not tied to your identity; uninstalling stops any further reporting, and you can ask us to purge what has already been collected.
- 1Open the app and go to the Settings tab.
- 2Under Data, tap "Delete local data".
- 3Confirm. Every saved card, its nickname, its stored history, any saved stations and bus stops, any scheduled expiry reminders and the cached exchange rates are removed from the phone straight away. A purchase is tied to your Google account, not to this data, and can be restored at any time.
- 4To remove everything at once instead, uninstall the app — all of its local data goes with it.
Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed to provide the App and for legitimate legal or operational reasons. Anonymous, aggregated analytics may be retained to understand long-term trends. When you delete your data, we remove it from active systems promptly and from backups within a reasonable period.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date below and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
